RAM Motorsport Secures Title At The Mountain
RAM Motorsport drivers Michael Sheargold and Garth Walden are GT World Challenge Australia champions following their successful 2024 campaign in the Am-Class.
Wrapping up the season at the iconic Mount Panorama, the duo held enough of a points advantage that second place in Saturday’s first hour-long race of the weekend was enough to secure them the title.
Even with the title in the bag, the pairing didn’t just ease through Sunday backing up their performance in Race 2 with another second-place result.
“The mountain never disappoints, I still get the same nerves racing at such an iconic venue,” said Sheargold.
“The plan heading into the weekend was to treat it just like any other race, and that’s what we did.”
“I’m pretty happy with two second places in the last two races of the season.”
“The Am-Class field had a bit more depth in it for Bathurst, so to finish second in both races was very pleasing.”
From the outset, securing the Am-Class GT World Challenge Australia title was Sheargold’s goal for the season after health challenges limited his 2023 campaign.
“It’s very cool to win the championship, especially after last years health challenges,” Sheargold continued.
“To be able to race for the title the whole season and keep on the pace every race.”
“And I’m stoked to be able to achieve it with Garth. Especially in the context of the journey.”
After three strong seasons as a pairing, the championship win is a culmination of the hard work from the entire team, both on and off the race track.
“Extremely happy to wrap up the championship this year,” added Walden.
“It’s been a very productive and successful year on and off the track, the team has worked well together, and we have had a super reliable and fast car.”
“The star of the show for me is Mike and how far he has come this year in terms of car speed, race craft and car feedback.”
“It’s been a pleasure to work and drive alongside him for the past three seasons.”
Sheargold is already looking ahead to the next challenge, racing internationally. He’ll join GWR competing in the Michelin 24 Hour of Dubai and the Michelin 6 Hour of Abu Dhabi in January 2025.
Michael would like to extend his thanks to all of RAM Motorsport’s partners and supporters who help contribute to their 2024 title, including Oilstar Racing Brake Fluid, Royal Purple, Quest Apartments, Dexion Victoria, Alex Bryden Architecture, Ready Set Redline, Omologato Watches, Purfit covers and Kase Building & Restoration Group.
He’d also like to specially thank Garth for his coaching over the last few seasons, as well as JP and the entire GWR crew for all their work to preparing and supporting RAM Motorsport over the 2024 season.
With the final round of GT World Challenge Australia complete, attention now turns to RAM Motorsport’s Porsche Carrera Cup Australia program which wraps up on the streets of Adelaide this weekend.
