RAM Motorsport Scores Back-to-Back B6HR Class A1 Victories

The RAM Motorsport/GWR Australia Mercedes A45 AMG has achieved its second-consecutive Class A1 victory in the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour, with the team’s drivers of Michael Sheargold, Dylan O’Keeffe and Ollie Shannon finishing fourth outright.

After starting from ninth on the grid, Sheargold maintained the car’s position in the top 10 before handing over to O’Keeffe under a Safety Car just after the race’s half-hour mark.

From there, solid driving from all three pilots maintained the car’s position at the top of the Class A1 leaderboard, while also spending a large portion of the race in the top three outright and in the mix with the faster Class X cars.

Ultimately, Sheargold, O’Keeffe and Shannon finished on the lead lap and were almost three laps clear of the next-best Class A1 entry.

Sheargold was delighted to be back on the top step of the podium.

“It was just amazing – we were the only Class A1 car to finish on the lead lap,” Sheargold said.

“We were even in with a chance of an outright podium at one stage, but it wasn’t to be – the Class X BMWs were just a bit too fast.

“The car run faultlessly all day, Ollie and Dylan both did an incredible job and the GWR guys were amazing as always.

“Last year’s class win was special but we had to work hard to fight our way back through the field after an early tyre failure, whereas this year was a lot smoother and more trouble-free. We learned some things about braking and tyre pressures that improved our package for this year.

“Given the victory last year there was a bit of pressure coming into the race as the defending class winners but I’m happy with my personal effort – I did a lot more of the driving in this year’s race.

“We’ll have to see if we can come back and do it again next year.”

“The race was awesome – we all knew our roles and the car was super reliable,” O’Keeffe added.

“It was certainly different to the racing I’ve done before – it gave me Nurburgring vibes passing all the slower cars!

“I just drove very conservatively, looked after the car and made sure I brought it home in one piece.”

RAM Motorsport will shortly be announcing some exciting news for its next Bathurst event – stay tuned!
