RAM Motorsport Set for Bathurst Double Attack

The RAM Motorsport outfit is all set for a twin-pronged campaign at this weekend’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst International, running entries in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS 3 Hour enduro as well as the Australian Prototype Series.

The weekend will mark the second visit for the RAM/GWR Mercedes AMG-GT3 to Mount Panorama in 2022, following on from the Bathurst 12 Hour earlier in the year.

On that occasion, a couple of incidents ultimately resulted in a DNF but Michael Sheargold, who will be joined by the experienced Garth Walden, said the wet-weather running gained at the 12 Hour could prove valuable.

“Looking at the weather forecast, there is some rain predicted on Sunday, so at least I’ve already had the experience of driving at Bathurst in the wet… on slick tyres!” Sheargold said.

“It should be an interesting race; obviously, there will be multiple pit stops so strategy will be important. Our aim will be to compete at the front of the Am class, but there’s no reason we can’t score a decent outright result as well.”

One driver who won’t be complaining if rain falls this weekend is Ryan Godfrey, who is coming off the back of a spectacular wet weather win in the last round of the Australian Prototype Series at The Bend Motorsport Park.

While Godfrey has driven around Mount Panorama before, this weekend will mark his first race meeting at the Holy Grail of Australian Motorsport, where he will be behind the wheel of his RAM Motorsport Wolf Tornado for a trio of non-championship races.

This weekend’s race meeting will be shown live on Stan Sport, as part of their Speed Series coverage.
