RAM Motorsport Ready For Unique Challenge In Sydney
RAM Motorsport drivers Michael Sheargold and Garth Walden are looking forward to a unique challenge on their home turf.
While no strangers to Sydney Motorsport Park, this weekend’s GT World Challenge Australia round will feature a different format, with a 3-hour endurance race under lights at the Eastern Creek venue.
“I’m looking forward to going endurance racing at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend,” said Sheargold
“Endurance races are a different challenge. The longer races bring the crew into it more with pitstops and refuelling. There is a lot more teamwork, which I enjoy.”
“I’m also keen to get some longer stints than usual, which will help prepare for some other exciting events on the cards early in the new year.”
In addition to the longer race, a compact two-day schedule and racing at night will add extra elements for the RAM Motorsport/GWR crew to adapt to this weekend.
“Sydney Motorsport Park is a track that the team and I know well, so we should be able to get up to speed quickly,” Sheargold continued.
“We’ve done a bit of testing recently, and we’ve got a couple of practice sessions on Friday to get dialled in before qualifying, the shootout and then the race on Saturday night.
“I’ve done a bit of driving at Sydney Motorsport Park under lights. The track is incredibly well lit. So, it’ll be very easy to see. The biggest thing will be the changing track conditions as the sun sets over Turn 1. I’m looking forward to it.”
“The night racing will be a great point of difference from the other events we’ve raced this year.
”The team is firmly set on putting on a good show in front of their family, friends, and sponsors at their home event.
“Being our home event, we will have a lot of our supporters and sponsors at the track this weekend,” said Walden.
“We’ll be out to put in a good performance in front of our home crowd and get a strong result.”
GT World Challenge Australia, as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries, this weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park will see two one-hour practice sessions on Friday afternoon.
Saturday’s action will include two short, sharp, ten-minute qualifying sessions and a Super Pole Shootout to determine the grid for the evening’s 3-hour endurance race. The race will be broadcast on 7plus for those who can’t make it to the track.
As always, Michael would like to extend his thanks to all of RAM Motorsport’s partners and supporters, including Oilstar Racing Brake Fluid, Royal Purple, Quest Apartments, Dexion Victoria, Alex Bryden Architecture, Ready Set Redline, Omologato Watches, Purfit covers and Kase Building & Restoration Group.
