Hobson Joins Sheargold in Am Title Tilt

RAM Motorsport is set to launch into the 2025 season with a dynamic driver duo, as Brett Hobson joins reigning Am-Class champion Michael Sheargold in an all-out assault on the GT World Challenge Australia title.

Hobson is no stranger to the RAM Motorsport/GWR squad having shared outings at the Bathurst 6 Hour, Bathurst 12 Hour, and two endurance showdowns in the Middle East earlier this year, he’s now back in action for a full season of GT World Challenge Australia. Grabbing the reins of the team’s formidable Mercedes-AMG GT3, Hobson steps in for Garth Walden, who is focusing on expanding his ever-growing GWR operation.

“It’s been great driving with Garth over the last three seasons,” Sheargold said.

“I owe a lot of my progress to his mentorship, but with GWR expanding, it’s the perfect time for him to step back and me to explore the next steps.”

“We won the Am title in 2024, and now he can focus on his team with the additional cars and drivers he has this year—though I’m definitely looking forward to teaming up with him again for big events like the Bathurst 12 hour or hopefully more international endurance races.

Defending his Am-Class crown is high on Sheargold’s agenda, and he’s thrilled to do it with a longtime friend at his side.

“Brett and I have tackled plenty of races together—Bathurst 6 Hour, Bathurst 12 Hour, and recently in Dubai and Abu Dhabi,” Sheargold continued.

“Now we’re putting together a full Aussie season, and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve.”

Hobson, likewise, is raring to go after a brief hiatus from GT competition.

“It’s going to be a packed year, and I’m pumped to be back behind the wheel with Mike,” said Hobson.

“Our time racing in the Middle East was a great warm-up. The camaraderie at RAM Motorsport and GWR is second to none, and I’m grateful for the chance to chase strong results with great mates.”

RAM Motorsport will make its 2025 GT World Challenge Australia debut at the official Media Day, ahead of the opening round at Phillip Island on April 4-6.
